Business Revitalization Loan ProgramGrant funds have been provided by the United States Department of Agriculture to offer revitalization loans to approved applicants for the purpose of improving the appearance of buildings in the Humboldt Business Districts. The intent is to offer the loans to business and property owners at an interest rate lower than what may be available from conventional lending sources. The ultimate goal is to revitalize business properties in Humboldt by creating a fresh and consistent look which should attract new merchants and customers thereby increasing the revenues of all businesses. Eligible purposes for loan funds: Exterior and interior improvements to business properties, including site enhancements and signage, equipment additions or upgrades, other approved purposes that promote employment and business development will be considered. Eligible Businesses Business properties located in the city limits of Humboldt shall be eligible to apply for the Business Revitalization Loan funds. Loan Specifications 1. Each loan will be limited to a maximum of $20,000. The Application Process Loan applications may be obtained, during business hours, from the office of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce, located at 1200 Main Street. Property/business owners may call the Chamber at 731-784-1842 to request an application by mail and/or to learn more about the program. Complete applications with necessary documentation should be returned to the attention of the Humboldt Business Development Board, in care of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce, 1200 Main Street, Humboldt, TN 38343. Applications will be reviewed using a loan policy developed by the Board and consistent with prudent lending practices and business judgment. The Board is comprised of Humboldt area bankers, an attorney, an accountant, and a representative of the retail business sector. The Executive Director of the Humboldt Chamber shall serve ex-officio. Applicants must submit all documentation deemed necessary for loan consideration and should be prepared to meet, in person, with the Board if a meeting is determined to be necessary. Applicants will be notified by the Board president as soon as a decision is made on their loan request. Applications will be processed in as timely manner as possible. After an applicant has received approval for a loan for façade improvement, they may be asked to meet with a Design Approval Committee. Loan funding may be subject to approval of the “fresh and consistent look” as described in the Program Objectives section of this brochure. Improvements must meet all requirements and codes of local, state and federal authorities.
