Humboldt has a mayor-aldermen form of government. The mayor and five aldermen are elected to four-year terms.

Sanitation and Sewerage

Refuse is collected in the business district daily and in the residential area on a weekly basis. Humboldt has both sanitary and storm sewers. The sanitary system has lines ranging in diameter from six to thirty inches. The wastewater treatment plant has a capacity of 2,600,000 gallons per day. The present usage is approximately 1,200,000 GPD.

The wastewater treatment plant was enlarged and modernized in 1998 and includes full diesel powered back-up generation.

Planning and Zoning

Humboldt has zoning ordinances and building codes. The Humboldt Planning Commission has a contract with the State Planning Office.

The County Tax Assessor makes Humboldt tax assessments and Gibson County tax assessments.
