Our Humboldt City Schools (pre-K through 12) have, and continue to add and train in, the latest technology and dedicated administration and teachers interested in preparing students for the workplace and more importantly, life! The system has a well rounded offering of academics (including vocational), athletics, bands, club activities, a student run bank at the high school, a technical lab, a strong FCA chapter, a mentoring program, advanced placement courses, family resources in each school, and much, much more.

The Humboldt Higher Education Center serves as the centerpiece of Higher Ed in Humboldt and our trade area. It is the home of Jackson State Community College, The Tennessee Technology Center, The University of Tennessee at Martin, and The University of Memphis with a wide variety of course offerings. The Trenton campus of Dyersburg State Community College is a short ten miles from Humboldt, and we are within 30-40 minutes of five-4 year universities.

Bottom line: We are serious about education!

 

K-12 Education

Approximately 1,800 students attend the four schools in the Humboldt City School District: Stigall Primary School (PK-1), East Elementary School (2-5), Humboldt Middle School (6-8) and Humboldt High School (9-12).

  • All schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges
  • Advanced Placement Courses at HHS
  • Technology Lab Classes at HHS
  • The School to Career program has added additional job shadowing opportunities for all junior high and high school students
  • All schools are site-based managed including curriculum, discipline, and scheduling committees
  • An Advisory Committee meets with the Superintendent monthly to enhance the educational environment from the district level
  • A Technology committee meets regularly to strategically plan for technology in the classroom to enhance student learning
  • Every K-6 classroom has networked computers with Internet access
  • There are computer labs in each school. "CCC & Accelerated Reader' labs are in place in the elementary schools
  • A district professional development plan addresses: - research-based instructional practices/strategies - curriculum and assessment - transforming schools through systemic reform
  • Daily classroom activities incorporate performance-based assessment
  • The Family Resource Center serves each of the five schools in addition to a VISTA worker working with volunteers
  • Adopt A School Program provides schools with resources from local businesses beyond the school's budget

Higher Education

Humboldt Higher Education Center, Humboldt, TN is centrally located in Gibson County and provides higher educational opportunities to not only Gibson County, but also northern Madison County, which are both affordable and convenient. Jackson State Community College, Tennessee Technology Center of Jackson, The University of Tennessee at Martin and The University of Memphis have come together to offer: Certification in technical areas, Associate Degrees, Bachelor Degrees, Medical courses and much more.

The University of Tennessee at Martin is approximately 40 miles from Humboldt. A State Community College, a business college, and three four-year colleges are located in Jackson (15 miles). Memphis (83 miles west) has 14 colleges and universities, nine business schools, and 21 technical schools. There is a Tennessee Technology Center located in Jackson (15 miles). Other colleges and universities are located throughout West Tennessee. Dyersburg State Community College has a satellite campus in Trenton (12 miles). The Ned R. McWherter Center for Advanced Technologies, located at Jackson State Community College, provides training on the most modern equipment available. Many area industries have developed a close working relationship with this Center.
